* Pro Tools HD2 Accel running Pro Tools HD 8.1 on MAC OS 10.5.
* We can record at 44.1k, 48k, 88.2k, or 96k in 16-bit or 24-bit. If you will be bringing your tracks to another system, please be aware of your preferred settings.
Analog Recording
* 24-track OTARI MX-80 2″ tape machine.
* 2-track AMPEX ATR-800 1/4″ tape machine.
* These machines can run at 15IPS or 30IPS giving you either 16 minutes or 32 minutes of recording.
* You can buy new reels at Recording Data Service in Burbank. Go for ATR or RMG if ATR tape is not available.
* You can buy used reels at Tape-Tape in Echo Park.
* You may also ‘rent’ a reel from us. We will then digitize the tape into Pro Tools. May we suggest buying one new reel and using it throughout your session?
* If you choose to record on tape, you may need to reset your digital light speed expectations. The tape needs to rewind so you can take a deep breath and think about your next take / life / dinner / etc.
* If you’re sessions are completely digital, think about mixing to 1/4″ for your final master. 1/4″ tape is reasonably priced and it sounds great.
Storage
We can record directly to an external 7200 rpm or higher Mac-formatted drive. You will need a firewire hard drive to keep a copy of your files throughout your session.
You are ultimately in charge of your masters so consider this hard drive your ‘master tape.’ We will try to keep a copy of your sessions on file, however, we cannot guarantee any backups of your material.
Firewire hard drive recommendations:
* Mac-formatted Firewire 800.
• We do not record directly to any USB 2.0 drives. If you have these drives we will only use them at the end of the session to transfer the files.
Equipment
- All the equipment that’s here is fairgame to use.
- If you need a specific piece of equipment / plug-in / etc, get in touch before the session and we can figure out how to get it here. There are nearby rental companies or we may know someone who has it!
- It would be wise to use new drum heads, new guitar strings, etc. Bring extra strings and picks.
- We keep stocks of blank CDs and DVDs
General
Be cool, man!
Parking / Load-in
- There are 2 parking spots in back, entering from the alley. There is street parking on Victory Blvd., Jesse Ave and Raymond Ave.
- Please load in the back. WATCH OUT FOR HORSES!
